Sagence is actively seeking an experienced, hands-on Data Modeler / Information Architect to help us build and enhance our client’s data capabilities and create a competitive advantage. This position requires active participation with modeling techniques for conceptual, logical, and physical data models as well as an eagerness to be hands-on from a project’s start to finish.  Additionally, and equally as important, as a Sagence Information Architect/Data Modeler, you must have the skills and experience necessary to effectively communicate with our clients.

Skills & Experience Required for a Sagence Data Modeler / Information Architect

MUST BE HANDS ON. All candidates should be technologically proficient in performing development work, have the ability to install & configure tools and platforms, the desire to rapidly build up knowledge on new tools, and possess the following skills and knowledge:

  • Conceptual and analytical thinker with the ability to define business requirements and extract, analyze, and synthesize complex business insights.
  • Advanced knowledge of modeling techniques for conceptual, logical, and physical data models; able to apply complex problems such as historical data modeling, semi-structured data, etc.
  • Understanding of the different data storage/access needs (transactional v. operational data, data warehouse, data vault, data mart, data federation) and the ability to choose the design(s) appropriate for the client.
  • Experience with multiple database management systems including relational, graph, document and other NoSQL structures.
  • Perspective on industry-leading data cataloging and governance platforms (Collibra, Alation).
  • Perspective on industry-leading (relational) data modeling tools and query tools / data IDEs.
  • Understanding of semantic modeling resources (ontologies, taxonomies, controlled terminologies, etc.); familiarity with semantic web standards such as RDF, OWL a plus. Experience with rule-based systems, automated reasoning, or deductive databases highly desirable.
  • Ability to drive technical requirements with business and IT stakeholders for implementations of data solutions.
  • Hands-on experience with Agile delivery methodology.
  • Ability to mentor and perform knowledge transfer to support a team.
  • Demonstrated ability in effectively engaging, communicating, and presenting to stakeholders across both business and technology functions.
  • Prior professional experience in a management consulting, an IT management, or client facing role strongly preferred.

Tools & Technology Required for a Sagence Data Modeler / Information Architect

Data Modeler candidates must be proficient in leveraging the tools and technology that drive value for our clients. Illustrative tools include:

  • Data Definition and Query Languages: SQL (including DDL), JavaScript and GraphQL, SPARQL and RDF, Gremlin, Cypher, etc.
  • Relational Data Modeling Tools – e.g., ER/Studio, PowerDesigner, ERWin, IBM Data Architect or similar
  • Database Management systems:
    • Relational – e.g. Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL or similar
    • NoSQL – e.g. MongoDB, Apache Cassandra, Couchbase or similar
    • Graph and multi-modal – e.g., Neo4J, Stardog, AWS Neptune, Arango or similar
  • Cloud-based technologies – e.g. Redshift or DynamoDB, Cosmos DB, Snowflake
  • Data IDEs: dbeaver, Toad, SSMS, DataGrip or similar

General Requirements Required for a Sagence Data Modeler / Information Architect

*Candidates must be currently authorized to work in the US on a full-time basis. Sagence does not provide sponsorship for work visas upon hire or once on board.*

  • 5+ years of professional experience working in a related role
  • Strong strategic business acumen and a passion for solving problems with data-driven solutions
  • Client centric focus with strong relationship management skills and the ability to influence business decisions
  • Intellectually curious and independently resourceful with the ability to prioritize and execute in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Willingness to travel to client sites as needed (post-Covid)
  • Chicago or New York area candidates preferred, but will consider candidates in other parts of U.S.
