Implementing a Right-Sized Data Governance Solution to Support Analytics
Sagence implemented and operated a data governance program that allowed a workers compensation insurance firm to create and apply data standards across the enterprise. This helped advance their analytical capabilities, simplify workflows and improve the reliability of reporting.
The firm’s strategy focused on enhancing it’s analytics capabilities enterprise-wide but historically it’s data had been siloed in each business unit. As the client worked to automate business processes and enable analytics across the firm, they needed to create a data governance organization and impose structure and standards on their data.
Sagence worked with the client to define the key roles and responsibilities for data governance within the organization, under the condition that we not create any new full-time employee roles and leverage existing resources. The Sagence team compiled a list of key metrics and KPIs for the firm’s business glossary that created standard definitions and calculations to be used in all reporting and new system implementations. Upon completion of the data governance organization, we created and executed a one year strategic roadmap to improve the scope and coverage of data governance. The Sagence team worked to create processes and standards for metric usage in new reports, dashboards, analytics and new systems. Additionally, Sagence re-aligned roles and responsibilities as the client data organization continued to evolve.
With the creation, implementation and initial execution of a right-sized data governance solution, the client was able to successfully integrate data governance throughout the organization by utilizing the standardized business glossary in a centralized tool.
